The Day After Podcast with Jeffery Austin: Week of 4/29

Published On May 3, 2019 » By »

So, it was another wacky week for TV singing shows. First, yet another controversial format change on The Voice derailed what just might be the series’ worst season ever (and certainly derailed Adam Levine’s ever-shrinking team). Meanwhile, the return of another and apparently much more beloved Adam L., Adam Lambert, to American Idol’s Queen Night, proved just how a rare and special a contestant he was — since few of Season 17′s crop were anywhere near his level.

Today on “The Day After,” my co-host, Season 9 The Voice finalist Jeffery Austin, discuss all and more. And we ask all the burning questions. Such as: How on earth did Idol‘s Wade Cota avoid elimination after his “We Are the Champions” debacle? Has Alejandro Aranda lost his mojo and his momentum? Is there any possibility that anyone other than Laine Hardy could win American Idol this season? What was fifth coach Bebe Rexha thinking when she brought LB Crew back to The Voice instead of the totally robbed Kayslin Victoria or Beth Griffith-Manley? Does The Voice‘s new Cross-Battles/Comeback Stage/Live Playoffs format ensure that no coach other than Blake Shelton will ever win again? Will any future contestant ever choose to join Team Adam again? Is Adam Levine actually actually done with this show? And… did y’all see my appearance on The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story????

And, of course, we blather on about about a bunch of other stuff, like Vote for the Worst, our other favorite contestants from Idol Season 8 (BEST. SEASON. EVER.), being on the right side of history in the Ruben Studdard/Clay Aiken debate, Michael Sandecki, that epic all-star Season 5 Idol finale, that epic all-star Season 10 Idol finale, Nedra Belle, the Reality Vote app, Shefanis, Fantasia, Marilyn Manson, Bobby Bones, Tara Reid, Taradise, my honking seal bark of a speaking voice, the ranked popularity of past Voice coaches, Kara’s Flowers, Billie Eilish, and more.

Please join us in the Lay’s Recording Lounge for all this plus a bit of RuPaul’s Drag Race talk, and have a listen to our funky theme song by our Season 6 Idol pals Blake Lewis (whose new album Wanderlust Unknown comes out next week) and Brandon Rogers.
