The Last Shadow Puppets Interview: Quite a Show!

Published On March 31, 2016 » By »

Alex Turner tells Yahoo Music that there are no immediate plans for his Arctic Monkeys to follow up their hugely successful fifth album, AM. But that’s quite all right. Not only is Turner busy releasing, promoting, and touring his second album with his excellent, Ennio-esque supergroup the Last Shadow Puppets, Everything You’ve Come to Expect, but when he and Puppets bandmate Miles Kane recently visited our studio, their wacky antics made a strong case for them starring in their own variety show or Monkees (or Monkeys?)-style sitcom.

We’re not going to lie: Getting the restless, bleary-eyed Turner and Kane to sit still for their Yahoo interview and/or stay on topic was a cat-herding-like exercise in futility. And our poor video editor was left with more than 20 minutes of what basically seemed like an in-joke-laden outtakes reel. But what hilarious outtakes!

Yes, whether they were impersonating their bandmate/producer James Ford (of Simian Mobile Disco), making stomach-rumbling puns about cheese and falafels, or bizarrely finishing each other’s sentences, Turner and Kane’s buddy act was amusing to behold from the sidelines. And that camaraderie is evident on Everything You’ve Come to Expect, which is already shaping up to be one of 2016′s best albums.

It may take the Puppets a while to produce another album (their first one, The Age of the Understatement, came out eight long years ago) or for the Arctic Monkeys to return, but as long as Alex and Miles stick together, they’ll at least have a future in comedy. Check out their best surreal interview moments above.
