The Day After Podcast with Jeffery Austin: Spring 2019 Finale Week

Published On May 23, 2019 » By »

Throughout this spring season of “The Day After,” my co-host, Season 9 The Voice finalist Jeffery Austin, and I made it abundantly clear that we thought Season 16 was the worst Voice season ever, while this recent American Idol season was one of our all-time favorites. But ironically, after the finales for both shows took place this week, we ended up happier with the Voice‘s result. Go figure!

There’s a lot to unpack in the final “Day After” podcast for this season, including: comparing both finales’ winners, ratings, and performances; discussing what went wrong for The Voice this season and what can be done to fix it in the fall; predicting the chances of future success for both Maelyn Jarmon and Laine Hardy; contemplating whether Alejandro Aranda was better off losing (and whether he even wanted to win at all); suggesting replacement judges (besides myself, of course) for American Idol next year; reviewing Adam Lambert’s new fashion and Chloe Kohanski’s (aka chloe mk’s) new single; debating what the best reality show rendition of “Hallelujah” was… and much, much more.

Please join us one last time in the Lay’s Recording Lounge, and have a listen to our funky theme song by our Season 6 Idol pals Blake Lewis and Brandon Rogers. And, if you prefer the written word, check out my Voice, Idol, and Drag Race articles on Yahoo Entertainment here. I’ll be writing about NBC’s Songland staring next week, and “The Day After” will resume in the fall.
