The singer-songwriter opens up to me about the misogyny she has faced in her professional and personal life, from being sexually harassed by Michael Jackson’s manager while touring as Jackson’s backup singer in the late ‘80s, not being taken seriously as a solo artist as the time of her debut album’s release, and feeling like she needed to dim her light when dating famous men.
