The Day After Podcast with Jeffery Austin: Week of 4/27

Published On April 28, 2020 » By »

This week, The Voice is running a clip show, while Mark Burnett and NBC presumably figure out how to proceed with this season’s not-so-live Live Playoffs in the middle of a national shutdown and global pandemic. But while we’re all sitting out The Voice this week, that’s fine, because that just gives you more time to listen to this nearly TWO-HOUR edition of “The Day After,” in which my cohost Jeffery Austin and I spend at least a full hour discussing the reality TV competition that has already figured out how to make the at-home format work, American Idol!

So, on yet another “home edition” of this week’s podcast, Jeffery and I not only break down our thoughts on this week’s Idol top 20, but we express our opinions on how, or if, Idol was able to pull off the impossible. Which contestants thrived in this crazy situation, and which ones struggled? Is this the future of reality television,, or at least the foreseeable future? There’s a lot to unpack.

We also talk last week’s The Voice Knockout Rounds (the final in-the-can episode of this Voice season), Bret Michaels on The Masked Singer, Celebrity Drag Race, and regular Drag Race! S0 sit back, press play, and all will be Ru-vealed.

Special thanks to our Season 6 American Idol pals Blake Lewis and Brandon Rogers for our funky theme song. If you prefer the written word, check out my Reality Rocks articles on Yahoo Entertainment here.
