Christina Grimmie Brings Her Voice to Yahoo Music in Exclusive Acoustic Performance

Published On September 11, 2015 » By »

Christina Grimmie, already an established YouTube star, made a mainstream name for herself last year on The Voice Season 6. A frontrunner from the moment she Blind-Auditioned with “Wrecking Ball,” she got it all the way to that season’s finale, embarked on The Voice’s summer 2014 concert tour, and took her career to a new level.

Now Christina has won another talent competition, the iHeartRadio/Macy’s Rising Star Contest. Her grand prize? Next week, she gets to open the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. That may seem like a daunting prospect for any 21-year-old singer (other performers on Christina’s iHeart night, Friday the 18th, will include A-listers like Kanye West, Sam Smith, Duran Duran, Coldplay, Janet Jackson, and the Weeknd). But obviously competing live every week on one of the biggest shows on television prepared this girl for any high-pressure performance situation.

Ahead of her iHeartRadio appearance, Christina stopped by Yahoo Music HQ to perform an acoustic version of her new independent single, “Shrug,” with her brother Marcus on guitar. Afterwards, she sat down to talk about life before, during, and after The Voice, from her advice to aspiring YouTubers to her upcoming music and what to expect from her big gig in Vegas.
