I recently had the honor and delight of chatting with shapeshifting rock ‘n’ roll visionary Yungblud about his epic fourth album, Idols Pt. 1, a years-in-the-making passion project and the record he has always wanted to make. (Part two comes out in October.)

To describe this album as “epic” would be a huge understatement (the first track and lead single, “Hello Heaven, Hello,” is a nine-minute mini-rock opera that practically makes Meat Loaf’s “Bat Out of Hell,” Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain,” or My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade” seem lo-fi). Yungblud, aka Dominic Harrison, knows it’s a risk. But I believe the risk will pay off and silence a lot of doubters/haters, and Harrison’s steadfast belief in what he is doing is impressive. He means it, man.

I recently had the honor of chatting with Måneskin frontman Damiano David about his upcoming debut solo album and why he took the big risk of making a pop record. He opened up about this bold new direction, his newfound happiness, his work/life balance, his mental health struggles, and why his “journey matters more than the destination.”

“Just like with every other human being, sometimes things go very well in life, and sometimes they don’t. The last few years have been very good in my ‘job life,’ but I gave up a lot of my personal life, and my relationship got very affected by it. I started being less carefree in my head,” he said. “I felt like in order to keep doing this job and also have a healthier life, I had to stop and rebuild from scratch. So, I wanted to start a new project with my own name, a different type of music, and way more control on the creativity aspect. And I have to say, that was the right move. I’m having a great time, and I’m healthier.”

I recently had the immense delight and honor of interviewing at length one of my all-time favorite singers, pop multi-hyphenate Adam Lambert, for the Film & Television fall 2024 issue of Music Connection magazine.

We discussed his boldly erotic new EP; upcoming Broadway debut in Cabaret; ITV docuseries Adam Lambert: Out, Loud and Proud; acting ambitions; underrated 2012 sophomore album (“Justice for Trespassing!”); and wild, 15-year journey from American Idol to AFTERS, among other hot topics.

“I ain’t letting go anytime soon. That’s my thing. I’m not giving up. I don’t go away,” Lambert told me. “I do feel I’ve come a long way. It’s about just giving less of a fuck, not being concerned with not everyone liking it. And that comes with experience. Having been in the business this long, being on the road with Queen for 10-plus years, I feel I’ve earned the right to say, ‘Fuck it. I’m going to do what I want. Life’s too short.’”
