Counting on Matt McAndrew: ‘The Voice’s’ New Breakout Star

Published On May 5, 2015 » By »

Matt McAndrew may have placed runner-up (to the also-worthy Craig Wayne Boyd) last season on The Voice, but he’s already shaping up to be one of the biggest stars to come out of the series. His debut single “Wasted Love,” which went to No. 1 on iTunes last year and sold Taylor Swift-sized numbers, was so popular that Season 8 contestant Sarah Potenza even covered it this year. And now Matt, newly signed to Republic Records, is back with another great tune, “Counting on Love,” which he recently performed on The Voice with Maroon 5’s James Valentine accompanying him on guitar.

While “Counting on Love” boasts a hard-rawkin’ sound that surprises some fans of the singer-songwriter, when Matt came by Yahoo Music to perform a very different acoustic version, he showcased his softer side. He also crooned “Wasted Love,” and talked about his post-Voice ambitions, which include selling a million albums (that would be a Voice first, of course).

The man already has a checkbox tattoo on his arm, which he filled in once he accomplished his original goal of landing a record deal. Matt better leave some space on his arm for a few more goal-oriented tats, because this guy is just getting started.
