The Day After Podcast with Jeffery Austin: Week of 5/7/18

Published On May 10, 2018 » By »

The Voice, American Idol, and RuPaul’s Drag Race are back, and so is “The Day After,” featuring myself and Voice Season 9 top four finalist Jeffery Austin — now in even chattier, snarkier, shadier podcast form.

But perhaps it does not bode well for the current Voice and Idol seasons that in this week’s episode, Jeffery and I spend a bizarre amount of time discussing other reality shows, some of which have been off the air for years. The X Factor USA, The Glee Project, So You Think You Can Dance, Candice Glover’s disastrous coronation song from Idol Season 12, a Cece Frey Hotel Café sighting, the not-ready-to-eat DJ Khaled from The Four... really, nothing is off-limits this week.

Oh, but we also discuss the inexplicable unstoppability of Voice top eight finalist Pryor Baird; the latest shady anti-Idol remarks from Clay Aiken (we really ought to get Clay on “The Day After” at some point); Season 8 Idol champ Kris Allen going on tour with the top seven contestants from Idol Season 16 (I refuse to call it “Season 1″); the big pile of purple poo that was Idol Prince Night; the pros and cons of covering obscure songs on TV talent shows; and whether or not The Voice’s Jackie Foster was totally trolling us by wearing a FLOOR-LENGTH WHITE BLAZER this week.

And of course, there’s some RuPaul’s Drag Race talk: This week’s moonstrikingly awesome “Cher: The Unauthorized Rusical” episode, that time that Cher herself tweeted approval for Jeffery’s “Believe” cover (see evidence below), and my upcoming DragCon panel this Sunday at 1 p.m.

FYI, if you prefer the written word, you can check out my Voice, Idol, and occasional RuPaul’s Drag Race reviews on Yahoo here.
