The Day After Podcast with Jeffery Austin: Week of 4/23/18

Published On April 27, 2018 » By »

The Voice and American Idol are back, and so is “The Day After,” featuring myself and Voice Season 9 top four finalist Jeffery Austin — now in even chattier, snarkier, shadier podcast form.

This was a controversial week for Idol, as virtually no one of color (and absolutely no LGBTQ contestants) were voted through by the public to the top 10. And it was a lackluster week for The Voice, as what some disgruntled fans (read: myself and Jeffery) consider to be one of weakest top 12 casts in Voice history failed to make it higher than No. 28 on the iTunes chart. No iTunes multipliers for them!

Today, Jeffery and I discuss our experience at last weekend’s Idol top 14 taping and swanky afterparty; some exciting Idol format changes and rumors; and, eventually, we get around to spilling some especially bitter Voice tea. We also reflect on my life-scarring performance for the Voice coaches two years ago; my NC-17 wishlist for an all-Prince Idol night; and why Jeffery boldly ignored the stern advice of several music industry movers-and-shakers and decided to do “The Day After” anyway. (Clearly, it was the right decision! Right?)
