The Day After Podcast with Jeffery Austin: Week of 4/12

Published On April 15, 2021 » By »

There’s a TON to discuss this week, just about the first three minutes of Monday’s American Idol top 12 show, the first live episode of Season 19, when it was announced that Luke Bryan couldn’t be on the set due to a positive COVID-19 test and was being replaced at the last minute by the judge who’s forever our girl, Paula Abdul.

Then Ryan Seacrest announced that frontrunner Wyatt Pike had mysteriously dropped out for “personal reasons.”

And then we found all those rumors about a comeback round with Season 18 contestants were true, and that someone from last season (mostly likely the unfairly advantaged Arthur Gunn) will be joining this season’s top nine.

It was a lot to unpack. And on this week’s episode of  “The Day After,” my co-host Jeffery Austin and I unpack all of that, along with our recaps of this week’s combined 28 Idol performances and three eliminations. Plus, we get into the final Battle Rounds of The Voice Season 20, my latest Masked Singer guesses, and a Bachelor sidebar… because it wouldn’t be a proper episode of  “The Day After” without a tangent or two.

It’s Jeffery’s birthday today, so what better way to show him you care than by listening to two whole hours of his reality chatter? Thank you for listening, and thanks to our American Idol pals Brandon Rogers and Blake Lewis for our funky “The Day After” theme song.
