The Day After Podcast with Jeffery Austin: Week of 10/29/18

Published On October 31, 2018 » By »

The Voice is back for its 15th season, and so is “The Day After” podcast with my co-host, Voice Season 9 top four finalist Jeffery Austin, and a snazzy new  theme song by our good American Idol friends Blake Lewis and Brandon Rogers.

And speaking of past Idol seasons, perhaps it’s not such a good sign for The Voice that on this week’s episode — which is supposed to be all about The Voice‘s Knockout Rounds — we keeping wandering off on bizarre American Idol tangents, from Jeffery’s memories of feuding with middle-school Claymates to fond memories of Adam Lambert doing “Tracks of My Tears,” to random mentions of Kara DioGuardi, Brooke White, Ryan Starr, Carmen Rasmusen, Danny Gokey, and Jim Verraros.

Of course, this is understandable, when two of Idol’s biggest stars currently sit on the Voice panel and Idol‘s top-paid former celebrity judge, Mariah Carey, is The Voice‘s key adviser this week. But we also mention RuPaul’s Drag Race occasionally too. Anyhoo, take a listen to what just might be our most rambling and unfocused discussion ever. You have been warned! But you might be entertained. And if you prefer the (much more succinct) written word, you can check out my Voice recaps on Yahoo Entertainment right here.

On a more serious note, we also have a rare somber moment on “The Day After” this week, as we pay respect to Season 1 Voice finalist Beverly McClellan, who lost her cancer battle this week at age 49.  Rest in power, Beverly.
